A Little Bit of Japan in the Basement of the Plaza

As I enjoyed another lovely Afternoon Tea experience at Bergdorf's this week, I couldn't help but peek out the 7th floor window out onto Central Park and think of all the wonderful times I've had this summer. The streets were crowded with tourists and it was really hot out, but I still wanted to walk around and window shop on 5th Avenue.

I stopped in The Plaza Hotel to visit the Food Hall on the lower level. The expansion of the food hall is absolutely amazing and reminiscent of the department stores in Japan. If you visit any major department store in Japan, the lower level is almost always the food hall. That's where you will find groceries, confectionary, gourmet food of every kind.

At The Plaza you will find Three Tarts, Lady M, Kusmi Tea, FP Patisserie by François Payard, La Maison du Chocolat, Luke's Lobster, Billy’s Bakery, Pain d’Avignon, Sushi of Gari, William Greenberg Desserts, YoArt frozen yogurt and last but not least Todd English's Food Hall. Our sugars now grace the countertops and shelves there and we couldn't be more pleased.

Plaza Food Hall, 1 West 59th Street, is open Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Todd English Food Hall is open Sunday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
