Orchids Restaurant at the Halekulani Hotel

Dinner at one of my fave spots with my cousin and friends from the city who just happened to be in Hawai'i.  


Warm greeting...

We arrived just after the sun set. Perfect timing. Live music playing in the background; hula and band from The House Without A Key. Our table was right by the water.


and then trying to decide on what our first drink together will be.


Kaori ordered the Mango Muse  (Bombay Sapphire, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur and Mango Juice)...

and the Pink Elephant  (A Ginger-Sugar Rimmed Martini Glass Filled with Vodka, Pineapple Juice, Berry Juice and Ginger Syrup) for me.

We ordered a lot of little dishes...beginning with the Oysters accompanied by Japanese Cucumber and Hawaiian Chili Pepper Water...

Ahi Crudo Horseradish, Daikon, Sake-Lemon Dressing

Kampachi Tartar Tobiko Caviar, Soy Ginger Gelée, Rice Crackers 


followed by three more dishes...

Sea Scallops on Creamed Kahuku Corn, Crispy bacon, Avocado Relish

Orchids Salad- Hirabara Greens, Seasonal Fruit and Pomegranate Vinaigrette

Hamakua Farm Mushroom Soup

Our lovely guests, Karina and Hamilton...visiting Hawai'i from NYC for a wedding, joined us for dinner.

and then it was time for the main courses...

Onaga "Orchids Style"- Steamed Long Tail Snapper, Shiitake Mushrooms, Green Onions, Sizzled with Sesame Oil and Soy Sauce

Seared Monchong, Lemon Fried Rice, Tomato, Thai Basil and Coconut Molee 

We finished off dinner the proper way, with dessert and French pressed coffee.

Halekulani's Signature Coconut Cake- Chiffon Cake Filled with Coconut-Amaretto Cream Finished with Whipped Cream and Shredded Coconut

Three scoops of ice cream: Kona Coffee, Coconut and Hawaiian Chocolate (and a cappuccino)

and finally, I couldn't resist, the Oolong Tea Verrine- Financier, Pineapple Confit, Mandarin Jello and Honey Tuile
