Fun Gus & A Gift For Clarissa

While I was walking around the Ferry Building in San Francisco, I was reminded that I would be spending my Valentine's Day with my niece, brother, mom and Sergiy. But, there's only one person I love buying silly things for--Clarissa.

So when I passed this curious shop I had to stop in and look around.

Enokitake, Shimeji, Nameko and Shiitake...

Tree Oysters and King Trumpets...

Hedgehog and Black Trumpets...

Reishi mushrooms...

And then I saw this. Even though I've seen other mushroom growing kits, this mushroom mini farm really appealed to me! I guess we'll just have to see. Clarissa is a very curious little girl so what better way than to feed her mind!

I ended up buying a Shiitake mini-farm for my home as well. I'm planning on making Chawanmushi (Japanese Egg Custard) sometime very soon so maybe they'll sprout up just in time. I recall my father telling me that he used to pick mushrooms for my grandmother all the time. It's nice to keep some traditions going, even though we're sort of cheating a little bit.
